Lakes of the Haute Charente
These lakes are a little further in the other direction towards Chabanais. Together they are known as the "Lakes of the Haute Charente". They are Lac de Mas Chaban and Lac de Lavaud:

Lac de Mas Chaban controls the flow of water into the upper reaches of the River Charente and has fishing and rambling along the wild, mint-covered banks, as well as sailing, windsurfing and canoeing with qualified instructors.
 
Snacks are available at the lake, and the restaurants at nearby Massignac include L'Auberge Des Lacs and Les Tournelles.Lac de Lavaud is a major ornithological site with over 170 species of birds recorded at the observatory on the west bank where birdwatching with expert commentary can be arranged.

Plage de La Guerlie and Plage de Videix on the east bank are two beaches for safe swimming, with lifeguards on duty. Across the lake, a water sports centre. There are also boats, canoes and pedalos for hire. The lakeside bar serves food all day, often has live music and is open all year round.
